It’s a 1965 highly modified Renault 8 with a Renault 5 Alpine engine mounted with twin double barrel Webbers developping roughly 130hp for 700kg, full roll cage, race seats, massive brakes and so on. It’s an absolute crazy loud monster but either the water pump or the cylinder head gasket broke down on me, 900km and 8 hours of ferry before reaching destination. It’s now in England though and it will be on its way to Japan early next week.
Sucks but the couple hundreds of kilometers I drove it were AWESOME! So anyway, it will arrive end of january in Japan and as soon as it’s fixed, I’ll make sure to “test it” properly :)

Looks awesome. Even on the bed of a tow truck. Can’t wait for you to show more!

Well, to be fair, I was expecting something like this to happen. It’s a truly brutal racecar with pretty much nothing stock on it. I drove it for 200km in mountain roads and on long straightish roads, alterning rally stage type of driving and long 3500rpm cruising. It’s not built to withstand something like this :)
I was lucky enough it didn’t brake down on the freeway :)

That’s a nice looking car you’re following the breakdown truck in!

1972 NSU Ro80 with a tuned 13b Mazda engine instead of the original rotary it had. Rotary also but much more powerful hehe.
Will do a full review of the car once I’m back in Japan.

Oh it’s you Richard?? haha didn’t think it was you posting here :)
The car is in Southampton now, waiting to be packed in the container. It’s leaving to Japan on the 13th. I’ll send you the link of the full review I will do of the car when I do it, sonetime by the end of the month.

No, I am Richard’s daughter. He told me he was selling the NSU, so I am interested to know what happens to it and where it goes... I am glad this well looked after NSU goes to someone who appreciates the unusual and well built models.

Oh ok ok, you’re in NZ if I recall correctly right? I will not keep the car myself. This is a special order for a customer/friend of a friend. He is quite a car guy, owns a Fiat Dino, a couple of old Alfas and a Morgan 3-wheeler. It will be in very good hands :)
Funny to see this engine travel this much also. It started in Japan in a Mazda Cosmo, tuned in England, went down to Spain then France, all this to go back to Japan now...
Anyway, after driving the NSU for over 1000km, I can clearly say that this car, with this engine configuration is really, really great. The smoothness of the engine is just incredible. It was lots of fun driving it all the way to England :)
